A new poll shows King Charles's US state visit improved UK-US relations in the eyes of some Britons, though belief in the 'special relationship' has declined on both sides of the Atlantic.

A new Ipsos poll conducted May 8-12, 2026, found that 32% of Britons believe King Charles III's four-day April 2026 US state visit — which proceeded despite a Washington DC shooting raising security concerns — strengthened UK-US relations, while 35% disagreed there is a 'special relationship', and US belief in the special relationship dropped to 34% from 48% in May 2024.
