Iran-Backed Hackers Breach FBI Director's Personal Email Account
ongoing
Iran-linked hackers from the Handala Hack Team breached the personal email account of FBI Director Kash Patel, publishing private photographs and correspondence dating from 2010-2019. The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed the breach and stated the material appeared authentic. The hackers claimed the attack was retaliation for a U.S.-Israeli strike on a school in Minab, Iran that killed over 170 people, as well as in response to recent Justice Department actions including a $10 million reward offer and domain seizures targeting the group. The FBI confirmed the information accessed was historical and involved no government information.
