Afghan Asylum Seeker Sentenced to 15 Years for Raping 12-Year-Old in Nuneaton

Ahmad Mulakhil, a 23-year-old Afghan asylum seeker who arrived in the UK four months before the crime, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for abducting and raping a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The attack occurred last summer when Mulakhil approached the victim in a park after she had been playing on swings, and he was later identified by police after using his Home Office-issued debit card to buy the girl a drink. Judge Kristina Montgomery KC noted the victim continues to suffer trauma responses and medical issues, while the case has prompted changes to guidance on reporting offenders' nationality and immigration status according to the NPCC.
